  • These spate of attacks are not simply random acts of violence or opportunism. They are a symptom of a wider racist sentiment that is so characteristic of mainstream 'aussie' society. Australia is a racist country.

  • Such racist attacks against Indian students are a natural extension of what has long been a history of entrenched racism in Australia. Starting with the genocide of the native Aboriginals, anglo-Australians have persistently vilified newcomer migrants - the Italians and Greek in the 1950's ("the wogs"), the Vietnamese boat people, the Asians. The most recent target of their unending race-based hate seems to be the Indians and Muslims.
