A demonstration showing two Illuminato X Machina arrays in action. Each array is programmed distinctly, and as the arrays are connected, Illuminato X Machina cells automatically update themselves with newer code from their neighbors. The changes are reflected in the pattern and color of blinking onboard LEDs.

I've posted all the source code, schematics, and gerbers, and project info over at antipastohw.blogspot.com

The Illuminato X Machina uses a novel organization of the traditional von Neumann computer, called robust physical computing. Rather than subdividing the system into its functional components, robust physical computing breaks the system down into a network of mini-computer units. These units, or 'cells' can combine to form a modular, scalable computer capable of adapting its performance to the task at hand.

Narrated by David H. Ackley, Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of New Mexico.

  • I love it how he calls them "guys" lol... I hope this term sticks and modular computer components will hereby be known as GUYS

"I gotta go pick up some new guys to get my rig cranking; this one guy stopped communicating with all the other guys!"

  • crazy and brilliant!! :-)

  • thats what she said ^_^

  • Its a proof of concept. it means you can spread code from one bot to another. like a virus.

  • cool you can blink leds \o/

    but whats the use?

  • the source code is not at the address provided

  • lets hope in the code u put in time delay's for the reason its running so slow.......

  • That is awesome but here a other idea what if you made a different set of broads to stop the code form affecting all the others . =) .

  • if you had over a 1000
