I shouted out for this song midset and Dave obliged me with it as an encore. Always been my favorite song of his, something about the imagery of sitting on some stairs on the 4th of July, smoking a cigarette, while some kids light fireworks below as he thinks about his girl.
The 4th of July is becoming my favorite holiday; while Woody Allen escapes to the movie theater and Dean Wareham pulls the blinds, I like to get outdoors and experience the year's peak ripeness.
Dave Alvin was in X when they recorded the album that this was on. He replaced Billy Zoom for a while, but didn't stay in the band very long.
