FRAGILITY:

A central black hole (which rapidly drains life on contact) is surrounded by 6 stationary planetoids. Each of them is made out of destructible material. If any sort of explosive (cannonball, meteor) comes into direct contact with the core of a planetoid, it will explode and be gone forever. This results in tense sudden death matches, and sometimes even to a final hover-fight around the black hole.

This is a preview of one of the maps of the level I'm currently working on. The level is called "Planetary Tanks!". 1-4 Players can play against each other. Each player mounts a tank which can charge and shoot bullets. The tanks, bullets and any other objects (such as fragments from planets) will be affected by a custom gravity engine of sorts. Each planet is surrounded by a gravitational field which pulls objects in. There's two main game modes: "Hits" and "Survival". "Hits" scores points for hitting other players, obviously. "Survival" is a fair alternative; the score of all players increases every 0.5 seconds as long as they stay alive. Last one alive wins the battle, plain and simple.

The project is currently in development. It's about 80% done. I've got 10 different maps to choose from at the moment; the final version will feature over 15 and will probably be released somewhere around the end of march.

Any feedback is welcome!

  • Do you calculate the speed of the canonballs using the closeness of just the closest planet (by inputting in an acceraleration function or something) , or do you calculate it using all the planets (adding all gravity components (you know, Fg ~ 1/d^2) of all planets).

    Btw, i smell a MM pick :D.

  • @TheSupernador

Thanks :D For the sake of simplicity, I always calculate the closest planet - and all planets have got a fixed gravitational pull, too. Adding "real" gravity would be quite interesting though!

  • Once again nice map, but how come both Circular Dissapator and this map came from clicking on Still Alive?

  • @danspeedemon

Could you elaborate? Do they appear in the related vids of some portal video, or do you mean that they're somehow linked in an awkward way?

  • @Noshire: He means that when you click "Still Alive" this map appears. I think.

  • @ZeroZ30o

Ah right :D Truth is, "Still alive" leads to a cake map. There are three hidden planets though which can be accessed by just contuining to the right after reaching the end of the screen (indicated by the bleep sounds). They're not hidden specials, I juts didnt find the time to graphically integrate them yet.

  • Cant find it :( you released it?

  • Wait can I help make the level with you it's cool I cod do some of the planets I don't know how the menu works thow but you can tech me

The cannonballs feature the most complicated system; a circular piece of material is attached to their back with a bolt (all invisible to the player). This circular piece look-at-rotates to the core of the nearest planet and drags the whole cannonball using a simple mover. This results in quite a realistic physical simulation, as opposed to simply use a follower, which somehow quickly dampens horizontal flying speed on everything.

  • @UsRiisi

It's not that easy to explain, especially regarding the character limit here on youtube. Basically, you have to work with look-at-rotators and simple movers and/or followers, as well as a tag in the center of the planet. That's where simplicity ends, though. Each object in my level has its own physical calculation unit. The tanks always rotate towards the center of the nearest planet and move downwards with local space on. The planet fragments work with followers.

  • WOW can you tell how you make custom gravity??
