In April of 2004, President Bush tried to reassure the public that no ones civil liberties were being violated by domestic wiretaps under the Patriot Act.

19 months later, Bush admits that he had been violating FISA all along.

(I was surprised to find no one on YouTube had posted the clip of Bush defending his wiretaps. I'm posting this video to correct that oversight.)

  • what do you have to hide? They need to tap phones everywhere, especially politicians.

What are "normal" people afraid of ? getting caught dealing drugs, prostitution, taking bribes, threatening people, ect. I do not believe normal people care about wire taps. Everyone I talk to that's not a criminal, doesn't care if their phone is tapped, They say go ahead tap it, I have nothing to hide.

  • I always wonder about people who are so quick to forfeit their privacy in exchange for a "promise" of safety.

Next step: open your doors and invite the police in to search your home without a warrant. Let them confiscate your guns too while they're at it. The VERY law you're defending, The Patriot Act, gives them that right.

I guess it is okay if your phone is tapped. It's not like the government has ever made a mistake and blamed an innocent person, right?

Dont forget that these useful idiots are surrendering yours and my freedoms too, This is total irresponsibility - they follow their fox approved leaders blindly because they're too lazy to research the facts before making important decision that affect everyone's lives..

Obama wouldn't abuse this power by spying on his political opposition, like president cheney did - nor would he have done it so secretly, if it was something he needed to do. Nor would he have tried the most loathsome defense when he got caught by implying any scrutiny on their law breaking was "helping the terrorists".

The world saw how our system works when the fisa amendment bill was passed by congress. The exec says the law needs changing and the congress does it.

  • dronetek 1, Admitting the is truth is hard

  • You know Obama is defending this program today, right?

  • This just goes to show how people like bush have a desire for power and dictatorship, this government needs to be overhauled and transparent otherwise we will end up like china, a scared group of people led around by a dictator and having no rights

  • You think wire taps will have anything to do with that. The law will do what the law wants to do.

Rich people will have the protection and they will not go to jail, they will keep the law off their property. just look at the tax cheats coming out in the political environment. think they will lose anything, or go to jail?

  • Bush: "blah blah blah."

  • Here is a new meaning for F.I.S.A.
