@nylox2004 Yes. You might as well use the 45uf.

The motor plate on my compressor doesn't say anything about the MFD requirements unfortunately. I believe its a 3.5 ton unit and the capacitor has gone bad. The old capacitor had a 40 MFD label. I purchased 3 different sizes just for curiosity purposes. A 35, 40, and a 45. I installed each of them and checked the amp draw on the common wire to the compressor and the amperage draw was almost an Amp lower on the 45uf vs the 40 or 35. Would this indicate running more efficiently?

@rotman67 No. But you can replace the 3/370 with a 3/440.

can i replace a fan capacitor rated for 370 3 MicroF with a 440 5 MicroF ?

DR. Z can is it ok to replace a 40Mfd run cap to a 50Mfd both the same voltage and hertz... if not what would happen to my unit?
GHOKO1234 9 months ago
@GHOKO1234 You should not replace a 40 mfd with a 50 mfd. You can always go up in voltage but not down. Always keep the mfd rating the same.

I worked on one that capacitor went out after 4 months cleaned condenser on unit 4 months ago .installed a new on 45/5/440 and checked voltage when running and got 462 volts on common and herm on run cap, compressor running just below rla condenser coil is corroded but to me it's a sign of compressor going out, they invested on a new system. What's your conclusion?

@fsdanlie Did you check to see if the compressor side of the run cap check out at 45uf? It sounds like the run cap might have been going bad.
