Machining a magnesium injector mount for my Porsche race car. Design done in ProE, CAM done in Mastercam advanced multiaxis. After the port was added this part weighed in at 64 grams and had wall thicknesses as thin as .050"

  • Are you sure this is magnesium? if yes, you should be very careful as mg can react heavily when it comes in contact with water.

  • @jetpower06 Yep, it is mag. I have a special coolant that works well with magnesium (Blaser BC37mg). I know the hazards of machining this and I did extensive research before equipping my shop to do so. Class D fire extinguisher is close at hand :-)

  • good to hear :o) I have also a Blaser but the normal one BC25md. I have the "mms" minimum quantity lubrication option on the machine so I can cool with oil based coolants or alcohol. What's your surface speed of the endmill? Nice work though :)

  • Doooooooooooooope

  • Damn you and your 5axis XD. that shit is badass :)
