like he said, has to be from herbivores, so i doubt it, unless of course you are a vegetarian then it might make sense, lol

Experiment with it and find out. Make a video and post it so that we'll know whether or not it works, or how well it works. A lot of people use tumbler composters which have a 'lid' per se so it may be beneficial. If it doesn't work well you can always take the tarp off.

Question, I just started my heap. It's only 3 foot tall but 5 foot squared. I followed the instructions on the layering. The heap is surrounded by loose brick slabs to get the air in. What I need to know is, would it be ok to cover the top with a tarp to help the heating process?

The problem I have using cow poop is all the shots they give it. If it's not your cow DON'T USE JUST ANY POOP.

Many thanks HowdiniGuru for an excellent video.

I always seem to have more brown stuff (carbon) than green (nitrogen), which means the heap is slow to warm up. Also, compost heaps usually need more water than one expects. Both problems can be solved by collecting what Lawrence D. Hills politely called Liquid Household Activator, diluting it to at least 8 to 1 (which means between 2 and 4 buckets per person per day), and adding it to the pile.

    It works a treat.
