philv's runs his '97 SC2 against my '01 SC2 at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix, AZ.

philv: '97 Saturn SC2, factory MP3 transmission, bored throttle body, all else stock. 16.773 @ 82.69 MPH.

Satyllac: '01 Saturn SC2, factory MP3 transmission, bored throttle body, 3" intake, prothane dogbone mounts. Also known as: Weaksauce. 17.103 @ 81.00 MPH.

I didn't feel too bad though, the Mustang ahead of me ran a 17.96. Got a quick laugh out of that.

  • im not sure how far above sea level you guys are but 17.1 seems a little slow for an sc2. I have a 2002 SC2 and i ran a 15.8 with just a full cold air intake

  • @dgk990 Phoenix is right around 1,100 feet. Indeed, she was a slow one... Prior to buying the one in this video I owned a '97 SC2 that had no problem running 16.2's with the only modification being cat-back exhaust.

In the car's defense, I did have the spare tire and jack still in, as well as a full tank of gas (gauge on the far left of the dash). Also if I remember correctly, I had two MTX 9500 10" subs in the trunk, as well as two amplifiers. I take "Run what you brung." literally. :P

  • hey man i was thinking about boring out my throttle body. Do you suggest doing it, lol basically, did it make any difference? How much did it cost you?

  • @R6BigO540 A guy by the username vms150 on SixthSphere dotcom bores them out on a lathe. When I bought mine it was $50 plus shipping, and $20 refundable core charge. Apparently you can also get a Geo Storm (GSi preferably) throttle body to fit the aluminum intake manifolds. Bigger performance boost than boring the stock throttle, due to a larger butterfly, but needs a little more skill getting it to mount up correctly. As for gains... Get a before and after dyno, then share the results.

  • @rwkerstetter whats faster the manual or automatic sc2... and what year

  • @USCisgay Many people say the first (91-96) and second-gen (97-00) SC2's are faster, mainly due to weight. The third door (and required frame reinforcements to allow such a door) on the 00's and the third-gens (01-02) add some considerable heft. The first-gens were the lightest (shortest wheelbase), followed by the second-gens (non-00). Horsepower and torque remained the same (124 HP, 122 ft/lbs, ) from 91-02. General consensus is that manual transmissions in these cars is the way to go.

  • @dgk990 far as im aware, theyre all essentially the same block. not 100% sure tho

  • @rwkerstetter well, if it was a convertible, the driver couldnt have been that serious about performance. so he could just suck at driving

  • @rwkerstetter The manuals are way faster due to the gear ratios, though if you want to build a trailer queen, you can build an auto for the sheer sake of no missed shifts. my 93 auto ran an 18, and my 96 5spd is currently running a 15.7

  • @juliankyo can you stick a 2nd gen head on a 3rd gen block?

  • i went 15.80@ 88.18mph on a 2.46 60' here in NJ at atco raceway. mods- home ported TB and a CAI lol

  • 16.7 1/4 not bad! 15.9 will be awesome with mods.
