Lincoln was even prepared to ( financially compensate) slave owners as the slave system faded out. This was the plan for the states still using slavery. There was no need for secessionism. This was probably how things were done in Europe when slavery there was banned. You hear of no old wars in Europe over slavery.

I've showed you in my comments concerning how the CSA offered to buy property within its territory, pay its portion of the national debt, and negotiate to avoid war and end the war when it began.
