This is a quick Depth of Field video test of the Nikon D5000.I locked the exposure. I used a "Quantaray Tech-10" 70 to 300mm tele-macro lens for this video. The aperture was fully opened. Compared to the Nikon D90, the video quality is much better on the D5000. I say this because there is considerably less wobbly (rolling shutter) effect. The D90 is just not useful for video, whereas the D5000 can very much be used for great video. Sound quality isn't the greatest, but it gets the job done; provided that you're not in an extremely loud environment. Although be careful when buying this camera, Nikon has put a recall out on this model, just go to the nikon website, and they have a page that will check your serial number for you to see if your camera falls under the recalls. • how much the D5000

  • You can pick up used D5000 body for around 450 dollars now. I paid close to 1000 dollars after taxes when I got mine, mind you it had just come out then and was new. I got the kit which included the 18-55mm lens. The price has come down quite a bit since then. So again, about 450 dollars should get you a used D5000 body.

  • @CanadaRC Now when you say "a used body," what exactly do you mean?

Are you saying you can get a "Nikon D5000 for $450" or "The Body/Shell of the Nikon D5000 for $450?"

  • I mean you can actually get a working Nikon D5000. When I say body only, it simply means the camera without any lenses, hence body only. You may even be able to get it for cheaper now since the camera is even older. Hope that helps.

  • @CanadaRC yeah i just got a body off of ebay for 395 with only 2000 shots on it. Do you recommend the 18-55 lens?

  • @maddawgzzzz Hey, I wouldn't recommend the 18-55 kit lens, unless you are absolutely desperate. If you are looking for a good lens on a budget, I would suggest the Nikon 18-70mm Lens. It is far superior to the 18-55, and sharp. It's also a quality lens with a metal mount. The only difference is that the 18-70 does not have VR (Vibration Reduction), while the 18-55 does. However the 18-70 has a faster aperture of 4.5 at max zoom compared to 5.6 on the 18-55. Check out reviews online.

  • Look at you, just picking at everything. Why would I use a stabilizer for a test/sample? I'm not doing a production video. It's just a video of some damn plants to display depth of field, not image stability. Read the title. The camera nor the lens have any stabilization built in, and I'm not about to spend a tonne of money on a stabilizer for a sample clip. It's not a hollywood production....

  • Lil shaky :) But nice
