  • @PuzzlingEvidenceTV The Super Connies were truly the Queens of the Sky ... Most beautiful aircraft ever built (at least until Grumman introduced the Gulfstreams) .. I was lucky enough to get to spend some time around the Connies, I totally fell in love with them... Oh, another thing --> The ride on the old P5 was slow and it was also LONG, the damned things could stay in the air forever... They were a Home Away From Home for thier crews, complete with Kitchens.

  • @hammerogod And, then the ride.....legion of slowness heroes, according to my Dad. I was was on Super Connies, moving at light speed.....

  • @KansasMusicLover1 My dad was vp-48 But I beleive he retired in 1979 Petty Officer Saladin at Moffett Field

  • When I retired at NAS North Island in 1997the seaplane ramps were still there

  • What a treat. My grandfolks had a house high on point loma with a great view of NAS N.Island. As a kid I spent summers watching every move on the base with binoculars and witnessed hundreds of P5 take offs and landings including a few JATOs. We would picnic on Shelter Is. just to have a better look at the seaplane traffic. By late 67, the P5's were parked. Great memories! Thanks for the historic footage. Amazing.

  • I was a Boomer !!!

  • As a kid, I got to see these planes around the San Diego bay. My Dad was in the military so I got to see the ramp area of NAS North Island where they brought them out of the water. As an adult I got to work in the buildings formerly housing the squadrons (hangers 28 & 29). Though the flying boats were long gone, the seaplane control tower was still on top of the hanger where I worked. I'd take my lunch up the ladder and sit in the abandoned tower and look at the great view of the bay.
