The title aria of the Cantata BWV 54
I also uploaded the following rezitativ & arie.

Widerstehe doch der Sünde,
Sonst ergreifet dich ihr Gift.

Laß dich nicht den Satan blenden;
Denn die Gottes Ehre schänden,
Trifft ein Fluch, der tödlich ist

Translation:

Pray resist sin,
lest its poison seize you.

Don't let Satan blind you;
for those who defile God's honor
will incur a curse that is deadly.

  • Please reproduce the accomp with the vocal part. Better yet get an orchestral score with modern voice parts and show us that! The performance is a good one, though. Thanks, but we are truly interested in all the parts, not just the voice. I hope that if you did the aria, with its three part fugue, that you did'nt just show us the alto part.

  • @bruce122046 You may want to try to fit the vertical score here on a 640x480 frame. Free to try.

  • This music comes directly from heaven. Be not human if not touched by this.

  • My favourite recording of this music which is even special for Bach. One of his best cantatas.

  • I love this song and this voice!!!!

  • Some say Bach's music proves the existence of God. Yeah, because God is Bach.

  • I'm in heaven...

  • Yeah, there are some weeeiiiirrrd deceptive cadences in this B section. The first phrase suggests C minor: i-iv-V-- to a D7 chord...! The next one leaps from a V to a I42 in G...gotta love it. What's the text? something about Satan..

  • This Bach creates a warm mood within me that no other music seems to, even Bach's & that's saying something. This really shows Bach the innovator. Bach's uniqueness. The greatest musical genius.

  • Re: Question, by "modern voice parts" I mean those transposed from C-clefs to G-clef. The BGA is public domain, but it is in the old clefs, the one's Bach used for vocal parts. It is hardest to read several at once, SATB in C-clefs, but practice, practice, practice.

  • @bruce122046 Im just curious... what do you mean by modern voice parts?
