In August 2008 the Kankakee Valley Historical Society held its first annual Aukiki River Festival (ARF) on the banks of the Old Kankakee River at Baums Bridge in Porter County, Indiana. ARF is a celebration by sight, sounds and smells of the rich and diverse people and places along the Kankakee River before it was channelized in 1918. Through the interpretations of historically accurate reenactors the public can view what life was like on the Kankakee River from the 16th through the 20th century. ARF is held the weekend Saturday before Labor Day. www.kankakeevalleyhistoricalsociety.org
