The catch-phrase "Men compete, women choose" is a gross oversimplification of human experience. And you don't have to look far to see this; I needed only to flip through the magazines lying around my parents house before I realized that women compete for male affection, too. Millions of young women read SEVENTEEN magazine each month—-there's a reason its front page always features headlines like "Hookup Report: What Guys Really Expect."

Furthermore, the contention that only men fight and die for their country is equally oversimplified. Women have always joined the ranks of the military and laid down their lives for their countries, even before militaries and countries existed in the contemporary sense. I'll admit that they haven't braved the front lines like men have; then again, for as far back as historians can see, they haven't been allowed to. Maybe that has something to do with it.

And before some genius brings up the draft, don't forget who graced the front lines of anti-Vietnam war activism in the 1960s. Feminist and women's groups were—-and still are--among the most ardent opponents of shipping our boys off to the jungle.

  • Your video serves to further illustrate my point. You were just seeing one side of the story. Women in this respect are the constant and males are the variable. Men don't look for resourcefully successful females. I will date substantially lower resource females and the reverse is not true. You must know that resourcefully successful males have many more mating opportunitys and the reverse is not true.. Women again are the constant and males are the variable

  • In a cross cultural study by Prof David M Buss women prefer resourcefully successful males and men prefer youth and beauty. You have further illustrated the dichotomy and thus our gender roles.

  • Sexual selection has nothing to do w\ social darwinism Social Darwinism is the supposition that individuals or groups achieve advantage over others as the result of genetic or biological superiority In terms of male and female you can not apply social darwinism as there inherently is no division of power between the sexes by genetic or biological terms Any biological and genetic disparity is mutually beneficial, complementary and shared entirely with the other sex w\ great eagerness I might add

  • ""Iadmit that they haven't braved the front lines like men have; then again, for as far back as historians can see, they haven't been allowed to.""

Maybe it has to do with logical reasons? I know its not as sexy as a conspiracy theory, I apologize :)

Testing by the navy, marines has shown multiple times that women are inferrior in military tasks. Anywhere from 2-7 times less efficient at basic PT-training tasks. Which is no surprise since they have 10000% less testosterone! Nature is a sexist.

  • Of course women compete, but generally only in the realms of looks. Women are still very much the choosers.

  • Again women like tall, large, strong, dominant, intelligent, symmetrical (good looking) resourcefully successful males. The reverse is not true and illustrates that men do what we do for women and not to oppress them. We willingly give them the fruits of our labor. Male resource provision and his ability to do so is infact a sexually selective trait that women look for in males.

  • We both compete amongst our own sex for what the other sex looks for in us. But the fact that women look for resource provision ability in men gives forth to our competition for such in politics, economics, government etc... Male male competition for such is very real.

  • No one denies that men and women compete for each other. What has to be understood is that we compete for different sexually selective traits the other sex looks for.
