The only thing wrong is his understanding of counselling and his perception that people are all perfect communicators. Many couples love each other deeply but once problems start the communication breaks down. A counsellor simply enables that communication and doesn't say how to fix the problem or tell them what to do but once the couple are able to communicate effectively can see the way forward for themselves.
