It's a actually a great drill to help time the arms and body...if the arms go by themselves, you'll hit the stick...if the hips get too far ahead of the arms...you'll hit the stick. I saw Luke Donald doing it too with an alignment stick through his belt on the range at Sedgefield C.C in Greensboro, NC during the Wyndham tournament a couple years ago.
Well,.. i tried this drill and almost broke my arms and the shaft... after that even though my tendency is coming from too much inside i never use this drill again!
@tigremontes1 yeh ''preppy'' is on the money. basically slows u down. My hips were moving too quick form the top. Gets Your body working in sync. Stops you coming too far from the inside, getting stuck, and then having to flip your hands...i.e more on top of it.
@tigremontes1: Did this drill as a kid. You take an old shaft or dowel rod and put it in ur belt-loops and swing. It keeps your arms in front of your body during the swing. So you don't get "stuck" and have to use your hands too much to try to hit consistent shots. It keeps you in sync. Great drill. You want your chest and arms to move together.
