I've noticed a preponderance of port-side visuals, which is a very nice added detail. As Trek Fans worldwide will note (before the remastered versions), Enterprise was never filmed from the left (port) (save for at least two times when the image was merely flipped). The original model had no details on that side, plus the wiring for the lights went in there, as well.
I'm gonna have to get me a set of the remastered Trek.

Seems like they kept the phaser sound effect running a tad longer than it should have-- Shouldn't the noise cut out when the beam does?

Not really a note on the visuals, but the soundtrack to Star Trek quite frequently kicked all kinds of ass, didn't it?

Always enjoyed seeing James Doohan as Scotty. He did such a good job with his character. Another cool actor was Tige Andrews (who appeared as the Klingon on this episode). Played Captain Adam Grier on the 70s hit cop show "The Mod Squad". Like Doohan, he played a strong, positive role model that kids back then could look up to. May they both rest in God's peace.

0:45 I just watched this on Ch 11 in New York. I'd seen the exterior type shots in the remastered Trek but this is the first time I noticed them re-touch the upper screens. I was really hoping to see the old one to compare, but I do like the result.
I can't wait till they come out with this on Blu-Ray. I honestly wonder what's taking so long (esp since the whole point of remastering was for hi-def tv).
