This storyline started sometime in 1999 and ended sometime in 2000. I for one loved this storyline, it was interesting to watch Hope playing Princess Gina who just happened to be a villian. It was out of character, but she did it so well!

I think the writer was Tom Langan. He was the headwriter from 1999-2002. So while he didn't create the Gina storyline (started roughly in 1998 with Hope heading to Europe) he did write the entire storyline of Hope being transformed into Gina, and the real Gina still being alive etc. I think he even wrote, or at least the beginning of, the baby switch storyline, which was a result of the Gina storyline.

@BOPEfan1 Yes the real Gina is older than Hope. They said something about Greta being in her early 20's when she first got to salem/was found.. Also the real Gina had plastic surgery to look younger, like Hope, when she decided to go impersonate Hope in Salem (she also had very grey hair, of course we don't know if Hope's been dying her hair for years). It's safe to say the real Gina is at least 10 years older than Hope.
