All of mongolia was under Chinese jurisdiction as the Empire of China. China then lost outer mongolia as a result of the second world war. Only inner mongolia was retaken.

yeah, true. outer mongolia is on its own. chinese do not want to associated with tem anymore in any sense.
inner mongolian chinese are brothers of han chinese.

Mongolia is the real frontier, not controlled by the Chinese government. I don't like all these chinese characters, aren't they supposed to have their own writing system?

@bilgyynei Mongolian script is seen on the left of the parchment in the first shot. As Inner Mongolia is a part of China since 1947, Mongolians are required to speak and write in Chinese also, like Tibetans. Independent Mongolia (Republic) is quite a distance from where I was travelling
