During an April 4th, 1999 performance at the Mat Bevel Institute in Tucson, Arizona--a performance that also featured Steve Lacy--Rudd's solo was interrupted by a passing train.

If you listen carefully, you can hear the train in the distance. Rudd's response is one of my favorite moments in live jazz.

(Also: I had the pleasure of meeting Steve Lacy on this wonderful night.)

The video I've made for this moment is culled from Michael Palin's -Pole to Pole- journey on the Nile Valley Train through Darfur. As you enjoy the music, please also keep the citizens of Sudan in your heart. As Rudd, Lacy, and Palin ever remind us:

We Are All Citizens of the World!
