Which translates into them being mercenaries/hired killers/corporate thugs/generic action-movie goons. ATC pays people to kill for them, hence the term mercenary.

Hey, I agree with you about FEAR 3 being a fuck up. The mercs, by the way, were 'evil security' guards in the first game and they were your main enemy in the second.
