This documentary traces the origins of what is today known as "Heavy Metal". Grand Funk Railroad were responsible for creating a new genre of music in 1969 that was called "Hard Rock", which later became known as "Heavy Metal". Grand Funk Railroad's fans reacted by making them the first band to earn 10 consecutive Platinum Albums. Grand Funk Railroad have earned 33 Gold & Platinum Albums to date. Grand Funk Railroad also still hold the ticket sales record at New York's Shea Stadium. The record has stood for 38 years & will forever stand now that Shea is gone. Dispite all this creative & commercial success, they remain ignored by The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Everyone click on the link below & sign the online petition to induct Mark Farner & GFRxR into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame now! http://www.petitiononline.com/GFRMDM/petition.html

  • This is what many people think Rock & Roll is all about. GFRxR was simple and they were crude and they rocked with a vengeance without pretense or apology. Their live show was 100% energy. It was raw and it was real. For all us who remember, nothing can replace it.

  • R I P The Great Buddy Holly.

Feb. 3, 1959 - The Day The Music Died.

  • GFRxR brought Hard Rock to the masses.

No band in history had a following like GFRxR did in the early '70's.

  • As an artist and creator that saw all levels of the playing field, Mark Farner's musical diversity is a matter of public record. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home" as one of the top ten classic songs of all time. Way to go Mark!!! Further proof this great American Band can not be ignored any longer!!!

  • The Origins Of Heavy Metal.

    It had to start somewhere,

    Grand Funk Railroad is where.

Everyone sign the petition above in video description for Grand Funk.

  • "Grand Funk Railroad were responsible for creating a new genre of music in 1969 that was called "Hard Rock"...hahahahahahaha...and cream didn't existed, hendrix anyone? zep? you're funny man, naiveeeee

  • the first band to be described in a magazine/review as "heavy metal" was Sir Lord Baltimore

  • Hendrix - the black man beats the white man in his own game rock'n'roll.

  • Is it me, or does Dee Snider sound unusually... silly? He's a relatively smart guy, but he comes across like a fifteen year old fanboy, who doesn't really know what he's talking about, as opposed to everyone else interviewed here who present a far more knowledgable look at how the genre developed from what came before.

  • @PackedFunk Amen brother!!!
