  • Was the PC controlling what was seen on the other screens or were those screens requesting media from the PC via DLNA or some other protocol?

    Was the PC transcoding the content ?

    Playing all that content over a network just requires network bandwidth, nothing special about the O/S is required. Been streaming video my Linux box to multiple devices using MiniDLNA for a while now, and that's only over a 100mbit connection, though it can't handle full HD, need a gigabit network for that.
