end of the passage in the book, after they encounter each other, he going up the stairs, she at the top. This little bit, these last words in the chapter, are I think one of the creepiest:
"I saw the figure disappear, saw it turn as I might have seen the low wretch it once belonged to turn on the receipt of an order, and pass, with my eyes on the villainous back that no hunch could have more disfigured, straight down the staircase and into the darkness in which the next bend was lost."

thanks!! No, not like the book, where the author sets the atmosphere of dead quiet in the sleeping house - her candle goes out, and they are both suprised by the encounter, Quint is coming up the stairs and stops short when he sees her at the top - the confrontation is in total silence.
THANKS so much for posting, I don't believe I have ever seen this version of the movie, but I have heard that the (somewhat ridiculous) Valerie Bertonelli version has this scene. I tried to watch that one, but gave up less than half way thru.
I appreciate you looking for this and putting it up!

@Dix994 Thank YOU for all your comments. Based on the description in the novella, it would have been more frightening but may not have translated as well. I don't recall that scene in the Valerie Bertonelli version but I can double check. If it's there, I'll post it. :)
