I decided to go spend the day out in Hoboken, Newport, and Jersey City again. I start on a NJ Transit Gladstone Branch line train to Hoboken from Newark Broad Street to ride by the MMC yard again. As we enter the yard we see some MOW equipment along with a line of ALP-44's still sitting around. It's good to see that they are still on the property. We then see more Arrow III's ALP-46's GP40's F40's PL42AC's and an ALP-45DP test train that is hiding behind an Arrow III. When I got off my bus at Newark Broad Street I had walked away from the station. Had I stayed there I would have caught the test train as I saw it from a far distance. ALP-45DP #4504 is on this test train. As we continue to Hoboken we see many NJ Transit Comet V's sitting around along with more GP40's, F40's, and PL42AC diesels. Notice GP40PH-2's #4111 and #4112 coupled togeather along with a Metro North GP40FH-2 #4902 there. After getting off the train I spotted ALP-45DP #4501 idling away in diesel mode across from track 17 at Hoboken. These engines look great! After spending the day out there I board another train back to Newark Broad Street. I take a quick look at the World Trade Center as we pass by the ALP-45DP again. Shortly after we come back to the MMC where we pass by the huge mix of NJ Transit equipment. I have to say that day had a very impressive arrangement of equipment both electrics diesels. We then quickly pass by ALP-45DP #4504 which is still hiding behind an Arrow III train before passing the long line of ALP-44's before leaving the yard.

  • The 44's I feel were some of the best locomotives. If no one takes them, I'd do anything to save them from death. As for the ALP-45DP's, I don't see where the heck they will run without the ARC/Gateway. Speaking of heck, they are heck ugly and I can't wait for problems to arise. I'd take maybe a dozen units, but never more than 20, that's a waste of $12 million apiece.

  • @ecoRfan The ALP-44, ALP-46, and AEM-7 electrics are the best electrics out there. It is sad to see the ALP-44's retired. Hopefully maybe at least the 44M's will be restored to service as those I believe where built in 1996 and are very young. The ALP-45DP's are able to fit in the current tunnels to NYP but as of now they are not authorized to go through them. With this dual-mode power NJ Transit will be more convenient for commuters that transfer at Secaucus and Newark Penn.

  • @NJTAmtrakGuy The Canceling of the ARCproject means these won't be used on the Diesel Hoboken Division , theres not enough room for the extra NJT capacity. So now these will be used on the future MOM network , Kingsland Branch , Lackawanna Railway , Philpsburg Connections , West Trenton and other future addons of course this was were these new locos were going to be mainly used anyway. There kinda wasteful , seeing Secaucus was built for people to transfer , then NJT created the one seatidea

  • @Nexis4Jersey Oh, well if the Gateway Project goes forward they will probably get around the system.

  • You had an interesting trip. Especially interesting to look at ALP-45DP! Are these machines not yet in operation?

  • @KHVEDOR Thanks for your comment! Hopefully soon they will be in revenue service. AMT already has their ALP-45DP's in service.

  • great video i live on the west coast so i only see new jersey transit on the web

  • @NJTAmtrakGuy So far, I only see them doing some service: NJCL to Bay Head, M&E/Boonton to Dover and points west. What's holding the DP's back is the FDNY having to certify them for operation through the tunnels and in NY Penn. But 20+ units is ridiculous for being without new tunnels, they are $12 million apiece.

  • @NJTAmtrakGuy Much obliged to you!

  • @waldwickperson Thank you!

  • @KHVEDOR not yet, plans have it that within the next month or so they will start to
