There are important reasons to electronically file your taxes this year.
First, if you e-file and use direct deposit, you'll get your refund in as little as 10 days.
Second, e-file is more accurate than paper filing. And finally, most taxpayers can prepare and e-file their taxes for free with IRS Free File, available only at irs.gov. If you don't qualify for Free File, some tax software companies are waiving the filing fee this season.
Meanwhile, there's something else I need to tell you --when you e-file your tax return, you must use a 5-digit personal identification number, or PIN, to sign your return. This is especially important if, last year, you signed your electronic return by mailing us a form
instead of creating a PIN. To get your PIN from last year or to create a new PIN, you'll need your adjusted gross incomefrom last year's tax return.
If you don't know last year's AGI or PIN, call us at 1-800-TAX-1040.
And remember -- e-file is the fastest, easiest, and most accurate way to file your taxes.
Hi, can you hand sign a tax return that was filed electronically? My mom didn't e-sign her tax return, so I need to know if she can hand sign it instead, The financial aid office at the college I'm going to this fall, needs it signed ASAP.
