Travel with host, Antonio Graceffo, the Brooklyn Monk, to Taiwan, where he trains in San Da (Chinese Kickboxing) with traditional Monkey Master, Sifu Hisham. Shifu Hisham is a no-nonsense, practical fighter who believes that the thousands of years of history in traditional Chinese martial arts makes them applicable and deadly in kick boxing, K-1, or MMA.

  • As far as actual MMA (not theory), he recently competed in Hsinchu. He got KTFO by some Russian dude. It's on Youtube.

I am not hatin' on the brother, I just live in the real world. Shit's different when the other guy is actually trying to hurt you, too. Most importantly, not afraid of you, despite your muscles, shaved head, beard and all that ink.

You gotta win some fights if you're gonna be an "expert" in MMA. Period.

He's tough, no doubt; but the reality didnt live up to the hype.

  • Just curious, i was iwatching in hsinchu too, which fighter were you?

  • Did you actually read my post? Did I say I was in Hsinchu, or even in Taiwan? No, I saw it on Youtube.

I know where you're going with this obvious classic passive aggressiveness: he competed and you didn't.

True, but watching those throws was painful; there are white belts in my gym who would KO (ippon) him (in Judo).

Finally, open your mind man. In a scrap do you really think your opponent is just going to let you run up and apply an arm triangle?

If so, why didnt he do it??

  • i guess that white belts at your school would have done really well in hsinchu.

  • Good job, it is good, I want to know what style is it, monkey style?

  • Its monkey mixed with wing chun and san da

  • @judoka4life What about Greg Jackson? He has trained many MMA champions and has never had a single MMA match. He has had to fight in the streets for his own protection, but he never competed. He is regarded as one of the top MMA trainers, despite not having fought a single match. I'd say he is an expert.

  • In Hisham's first MMA fight, he was doped up on antibiotics for flu. He really was not in shape for a cage fight, but went for it anyway. Asd he got through the first round, I'd say he did okay.

  • Guys, it is just good to see the truth of any martial arts that training PROPERLY is MMA. Whether you base yourself in Chinese arts, thai or otherwise, train your mind, body and spirit, be practical and the technques are no longer important. I trained for many years with CMA/TMA master and even he admitted that MMA theory should be the ultimate focus for those who wish to USE their art. Thanks for the Vids. Love your work (An Aussie fan - based in chinese/thai arts myself)
