Because i´m using some new techniques i decided to make new videos about painting figures. Especially oil paints are a big improvement. Part I deals with acrylic paints and the groundwork in general.

The figures i used for this videos are from Andrea miniatures and show a Roman Centurion and a Legionary of the 1st Century B.C. Scale: 54mm (1/32).

They look exactly like the two protagonists in the series "Rome" from HBO, my favourite TV series. The Centurio is Lucius Vorenus, the Legionary is Titus Pullo.

In my understanding this video is an update to earlier videos i made about painting miniature figures.
The techniques shown in this video are just my own way to paint figures. Professional modellers might not allow these techniques, but they work for me and i´m usually very satisfied with the results.

I don´t own the rights for the music in this video.
Track 1: "Through the valleys" from the PC game "Oblivion".
Track2: "HBO Rome intro music" from Jeff Beal.

  • I learned a lot in this video as a beginner painting figure hobbyist ,,thx

  • @warlord69enrico i´m glad it was helpful for you :)

  • for a minute when i watched the oils coming out i thought damn, your about to lose

all your work by making them oily, but you have pulled it off, spot on.

im 100% acrylic when i paint figures, and 95% airbrush even on 48 scale figures

apart from hair eyes and mouths.

    well done, good job.

  • @a24218361 thank you :)

i don´t use oil paints very much and the effect is very small in the end, but somehow the figures look a bit better with them, although i just put very little of it on the figure.

i´m not a good figure painter at all, i just enjoy it to paint some historic figures from time to time. i usually stick to tank models.

i will upload a new white metal figure soon, it will be a roman triarius in 70mm scale from ares mythologic.

  • Maybe stippling or wiping technique would be perfect for you (i talk about oil paints). I was said that painting miniatures with oil is somehow easier than with acrylics and that got me into painting with oils. I have one image that explains stippling tećhnique and if you're interested I can send it to you. It's in Czech, but I will provide you with instructions in English. It¨s from one of the best miniature painters in Czech republic. You will love it ;)
