Once this was an R&B hit for Fats, Dot Records had Boone cut it for pop.

Black artists like Fats & Little Richard say they didnt mind: by bringing attention to their songs, Boone helped open the door for their acceptance.

says Boone: "I could not.. legitimately sing black music. But I provided a necessary transition. I was a bridge."

This was a different time; be wary of projecting today's morality back onto it.

Pat Boone wasted vinyl on a song that Fats had already done much better. Aint that a shame?

But what did Boone do wrong? All he is guilty of is something every single musician black and white has done... he did a cover. He never claimed ownership of any of these songs. The real criminals in this were the record companies and radio stations who shut out black musicians and screwed them out of songwriting royalties. Not to mention the ppl who bought Boone's records and not that of black musicians.

Of course they minded. You can't possibly think an ARTIST would not mind someone else banking off of their song simply because they aren't black.

Some people need to do some research before you insult Pat Boone. He was a great artist and yes, he only covered this because at the time black artists were not very popular or liked, so no, he didn't steal this from Fats, he was just trying to help him out.

The only reason Pat Boone made this song was because white parents didn't want there teens listening to black artists. Pat Boone actually helped Fats Domino in the long run by giving him more publicity. But adults liked Fats Domino with his warm friendly grandfather image, he wasnt like little Richard jumping up and down the piano and using obvious sexual overtones. Long story short they're both legends.
