Sonny Chiba was over looked and underrated both as a martial artist and as a martial arts action star. Take a look that this montage of clips take from the movie made in 1979 called "The Executioner".. This man was faster than Bruce Lee and was the student of the Legendary great master Mass Oyama, known for killing bulls with his bare hands... He chopped the horns of 30 and killed 4.. He was never defeated by any martial artist and had a standing challenge to any martial artist.... Chiba originally was a gymnastics master ready to compete in the olympics representing Japan when he injured himself and couldn't make the team... He then studied under Grandmaster Oyama and then later became a Japanese version of Bruce Lee in martial arts action films... As you can see. He is every bit as good if not better.

  • Chiba showed a more realistic display that almost landed him an x-rating.. He was by far more brutal for those who prefer that.

  • i know there are a lot of people that like Bruce lee i liked him too growing up and yes he was really fast.. Chiba's fast too. They both look devastating! So who cares i enjoy both of them.. I guess with Chiba he was more into showing the realism and the gore where Bruce Lee was more into the slap stick or fantasy.. What I mean by that is nobody would be getting up after getting hit like he hit people in his films. He hit Chuck Norris and Norris didn't have a Mark on his face.

  • As a kid growing up this is the one that really caught my attention and made me become a fan of Chiba and later look closer into his other films.

  • I like thi movie because i can't find any other movie where it showcases his martial arts abilities like this one with the same production value that this one had... It's definitely a step up cinematically at the time. Nice angles for all of his moves. It was all well captured in this flick.. I thought he really performed his best in this one as compared to the others. He was more intense, brutal and quick....It's as if he really wanted to show how good he was in this one...

  • Well that would probably be Bruce's next movie that he would do with Chiba had he lived. That is an interesting realization that was never really discussed. No one really talked about what his next film would be and who would be in it had he lived. How about that?

  • "Executioner"

  • i loved bruce lee's movies dnt get me wrong, but sonny was just better imo!! CHIBA ALL DAY!!

  • I watched an interview where Chiba said he was going to meet Bruce for the first time ever, this was when Enter The Dragon first debuted. But as we all know with Bruce's untimely death,he left us so it never happened. Could anyone imagine having those two in the same movie beating "Mo Foes"down?! I sure hell wouldn't want be on of them.

  • Nice tribute to the man I loved his style of martial arts because he was ruthless and I grew up as a kid watching him. But there will NEVER BE another Bruce Lee! Hands down! And if you don't think so, then why all the people that worked with Bruce always said he would never let up on his workouts and MMA would've been perfect for him because he always wanted REAL TIME senarios! Nonetheless Ioved watching them both.

  • i dont know sony chiba. who is the fuck?

i respect him as "千葉 真一"

  • Dude! Sonny's incredible but....as far as pure hand to hand talent there probably weren't more than 10 or 20 people in the past century who were even in Lee's league. If he looked slower in his movies its just that he purposely held himself back because the cameras couldn't even capture his movements at normal speed.
