Dr. Pakzaban (www.pakzaban.com) demonstrates microvascular decompression for treatment of intractable trigeminal neuralgia. In this case there is a congenital duplication of the superior cerebellar artery (SCA). One SCA is found under the trigeminal nerve, pulsating against that nerve and triggering facial pain. In this video, the artery is separated from the nerve and a teflon cushion is placed between the two.

The patient's facial pain resolved immediately after the surgery. She cried when she was first able to wash her face without provoking pain -- something she hadn't been able to do for several years.
