From the 1974 album 'Caribou'
Pinky
Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin

I don't want to wake you
But I like to tell you that I love you
That the candlelight fell like a crescent
Upon your feather pillow

For there's more ways than one
And the ways of the world are a blessing
For when Pinky's dreaming
She owes the world nothing
And her silence keeps us guessing

Pinky's as perfect as the Fourth of July
Quilted and timeless, seldom denied
The trial and the error of my master plan
Now she rolls like the dice in a poor gambler's hands

You don't want to tell me
But somehow you've guessed that I know
Oh when dawn came this morning
You discovered a feeling that burned like a flame in your soul

For there's toast and honey
And there's breakfast in bed on a tray
Oh it's ten below zero
And we're about to abandon our plans for the day

  • A great arrangement! I have had a "stab" at this song, but mine is not a patch on yours. You're a really great player and have done an excellent job on this song.

  • @tonemcs Thanks for the very kind comment. Much appreciated. Thanks alo for subscribing! DSC

  • this song shows the sheer songwriting genius of Elton John (& Bernie Taupin)...it's deceptively easy yet stunning in it's effect...one of his greatest songs ever...good job dude...

  • mineheadX1...thanks for the kind comment. I'd like to invite you to subscribe to my channel for future posts!

  • Excellent David, love your version, dare I say it, it is funkier than E.J.'s own!

  • The opening was rather like 'Ticking' :D!

  • Great song...Songs like these always make me wonder what happened to Elton John's writing ability in the last 20 years.

  • Check out L10Johnathan's version, WOW!

  • Thanks for your invite... no worries, there already! Merry Christmas and best wishes for a good 2K9

  • Nigel: You make valid points here, so I'll take what I can use from you comments and leave the rest.

In my own defense,I am quite pleased with this performance. The arrangment on 'Caribou' has a lot of instrumentation on it,so the piano performance is by neccessity 'sparser'. BTW,David Hentshel, who played synth on EJ's version mixed & played on my CD 'Belle Epoque'. I will probably re-record this anyway as one of the keys was buzzing. Are you a musician or merely a critic? Post your own version.

  • I can't agree w/the majority of the people in here about your musical talent. What I find is that the melodic vocal phrasing is missing and the piano isn't as sparce as the original song. What all musicians NEED AND MUST realize is that not only is it important to know when to play, it's just important to know when NOT to play. This performance finds me feeling that this musician is trying to get this song over as quickly as possible while I find myself wishing the original would never end!
