Chin augmentation:
Chin augmentation can alter the underlying structure of the face, providing better balance to the facial features. Chin implants may dramatically improve ones profile by correcting a "weak" chin or receding chin due to congenital deficiency, age-related bone resorption or facial trauma. A weak chin can make the nose seem larger or make the neck appear fatty and undefined.
Surgeons who specialize in rhinoplasty are often the first to suggest that changes in chin size or shape may enhance a profile as much as rhinoplasty. It is common for the facial plastic surgeon to recommend chin surgery in addition to nose surgery when the surgeon sees that chin augmentation is necessary to achieve facial balance and harmony. Chin augmentation with an implant is the procedure of choice for most patients with normally functioning teeth and jaw development. Fortunately, this is a relatively straightforward procedure that can make a major difference.

Why do surgeons sometimes use the Lefort procedure to bring the patient's chin forward versus an implant? Which offers a more natural result?

@addr2002 Hello,The Le Fort procedure is a more complex procedure that involves repositioning the mandible, especially when the teeth occlusion is not perfect. The surgeon will separate the upper palate and move it forward, which can correct an underbite. An implant will enhance the appearance of a receding or weak chin, where there is no issue with an underbite. It would be best to speak with a board certified maxillofacial surgeon regarding the Le Fort procedure.Thank you for the question.
