The Gremlin hits the road!

Matthew has been using training wheels for about the last year.

About 4 months ago he was ready to ride without them but his confidence level just wasn't there yet. He was balancing really well but he was just very afraid of crashing. We took them off for about a week and worked with him on riding but he decided he just wasn't ready yet. We put the training wheels back on because he wouldn't even touch the bike without them and we wanted him to at least ride it.

This sunday one of the training wheels broke going over a bump and he decided he wanted to try riding with out them. With his friends all cheering from the side lines and mom holding a bunch of Mike & Ikes as "drive by" rewards we took of the training wheels and gave it a go.

I held him up as he got on and then as he started to pedal I gave him a push and he was off like a rocket! That was it no other help needed except a push to get him started. I told you he was ready to go!

After a few minutes of riding around our cul-de-sac we worked on learning on how to start from a stand still. With a little coaching and a few false starts he had that down too.

Finally, Matthew has a new view! From a bike, without training wheels and very mobile.

By the way, thats about all we've done in the last day!! He is very proud that he's now on an official two wheeler and will tell and show anyone who comes near!
