These video clips were made by French Television in 1974 at an old church in the Paris suburbs.
There were two students taught by Mr.Paul Tortelier.
One was Mr. Philippe Cherond from France.
The other person was Miss Akiko Kanamru from Japan.
She is a friend of mine via Japans' internet web site"MIXI".
From conversations with her by "MIXI", I found out she owned these film clips
and strongly desired that as many people as possible could watch these wonderful videos.
So I advised her to share this video on Youtube, and I uploaded these for her.
Akiko Kanamaru San now belongs to the Zurich Opera House Orchestra and .plays Violoncello.

Merci pour toutes ces videos. Un veritable tresor! Il faut a envoyer ca a EMI pour en faire un DVD commercial. Je suis un violoncelliste Francais recemment engage dans L'orchestre symphonique de Boston. Cette lecon de Tortelier m'en a apprit plus que mes 25 annees precedentes de travail!

He is not only a great cellist, but an excellent professor and a philopher who certaintly understood many things and was able to make the message transcend to his students. He reveals the greatness of the french school.

No, Tortelier was a Catholic, but did spend a year with his family in a kibbutz in Israel. The accompanist in the video - Maria de la Pau - is his daughter.

Il n'est pas professeur. Il est un des plus grands violoncellistes au monde. Il s'agit ici de ce qu'on appelle une "masterclass". Ce sont des sessions exceptionnelles. En France on ne s'intéresse pas à la religion ou penchants spirituels des artistes.
