Within the former 7d Hacking River Protected Environment there are various areas that land speculators bought on some sort of understanding from whoever the seller was that this protected land would be rezoned one day to allow housing subdivisions...!!! This is known as "land speculation." And it's a gamble. Now there is a move on where this 7d is being reviewed to fall under the new Wollongong LEP (Local Environmental Protection) 2009. These speculators have never given a reason, that if they so desired to live in the area, why they didn't buy in the residential footprint of Helensburgh. Herbert Creek is a tributary, one of many, in the headwaters of the Hacking. Despite offered changing sub division plans, the main way to protect a creek is not to put a subdivision around it. Herbert Creek is of very few areas that act as a wildlife corridor to the Illawarra Escarpment from the Royal National Park. It should really be resumed by the State Government.
