The California Army National Guard is hiring. We are the largest private employer in the state. Most Soldiers serve 2 days per month and 2 weeks during g the summer. The National Guards primary mission is disaster response but we also support combat missions around the globe.

Currently we offer the Active First program. This program allows you to experience both the US Army and the Army National Guard. Recruits who sign on under the program, which started Oct. 1, receive $20,000 for 30 months of active-duty service, $30,000 for 36 months and $40,000 for 48 months - all paid after completion of basic and job training.

See your recruiter for enlistment qualifications.

To join the National Guard contact Staff Sergeant Brito at 562.900.0575 or visit http://www.iguardcalifornia.com

After active service, Soldiers may opt to re-enlist in the active Army or take an additional $20,000 to serve their remaining obligation in the National Guard.

**Infantry Rifle Squad**
A platoon is a military unit typically composed of two to four sections or squads and containing 16 to 50 soldiers. Platoons are organized into a company, which typically consists of three, four or five platoons. A platoon is typically the smallest military unit led by a commissioned officer—the platoon leader or platoon commander, usually a lieutenant. He is usually assisted by a senior non-commissioned officer—the platoon sergeant.
In some armies, platoon is used throughout the branches of the army. In others, such as the British Army, most platoons are infantry platoons, while some carry other designations such as tank, mortar, or heavy weapons platoons. In a few armies, such as the French Army, a platoon is specifically a cavalry unit, and the infantry use "section" as the equivalent unit.

The word is derived from the 17th-century French peloton, meaning a small detachment of soldiers, which came from pelote meaning a small ball (originally from Latin 'pillula', meaning 'little ball').
