Piano Concerto 2, 1st mov. by Dmitri Shostakovich. Alvin Mills conducting the Brentwood-Westwood Symphony Orchestra, pianist Leigh Gaines as one of the Artists of Tomorrow concerto winners. It is a volunteer orchestra, so please excuse the extreme timing problems :)

  • oh GOD what happened at 5:52?

  • @DHWOO Rather painful, I know :/ Volunteer orchestra, like I said...

  • Thank you for the comments! It was a blast to perform, though I wish the orchestra could have handled a slightly faster tempo. Check out Bronfman's recording with Salonen and the LA Phil - it is my absolute favorite (especially the 2nd movement *deep, happy sigh*).

  • She is FANTASTIC - those audience members (and the one flautist) ought to be taken out behind the building and put out of their misery for not giving a standing ovation. I wish I could have heard that performance in person!

  • very very good

  • @DHWOO i think shostakovich died a little inside when he heard that. beautiful piano with insane orchestra. LOL

  • although your interpretation is not my fave, i have to commend you on this!

  • BRILLIANT !

  • You are fantastic I love this :D

  • holy cow girl! you are incredible! i'd give anything to play shostakovich!

  • Well done. Congratulations on a great performance!!

I am myself scheduled to perform this concerto May 2011

  • @pianofanatic18

For which movement would you like a slightly faster tempo? In this movement, I find that this tempo is already very exciting (if possibly a little too brisk), since it is imbued with much energy by the orchestra and yourself.

    Great work btw =)

  • Where did you get the orchestra part? like where online?
