with a 46 or a 4-4, the defense would have to line up with a 1 safety formation, and at that point they are dead in the water against a 5 step hot read

Obviously with a 4-6 or 4-4 look you have the option to change protections which changes the mike and creates either a new hot receiver or indicates multiple hot receivers. Protections are not always hot off of an individual player but can be off of multiple or either or players depending on how you plan your protection assignments
