What is your opinion on buying a used gtx480 for less then $250 . I really want the most performance I can afford right now, so I can hold on to this setup. I've always been a big fan of buying last years tech. However if I go the cheaper route and get a 5870 for less then $150, planing on buying another one later. I'm afraid of running into issues with ati drivers and crossfire. Plus if the used cost of 5870 is still high when I buy the second one I'll spend just as much as buying a 480 now .

All in all I don't see any major advantages in the 5xx series or 6xxx series (unless prices drop more) But in purchasing and used 480 I do have to worry about its history. This makes spending the extra money on a 560 ti 448 core seem worth it I just hope Nvidia prices it at 250 bucks.

To sum up my questions.
Do you think 5870 CF will be glitchy ?
Do you think a used 480 is worth $250 right now?
Do you think you think a used 480 is too big of a gamble ?
Do you think that a 560 448 will be close to the performance of a 480 ?

  • Didn't see your comment until now not sure why ? But yea I'm reading to many forum post about 5870 having strange problems especially in the games I play .

The 470 sell around 160 and I'm probably going with that. I'm still waiting to see what the 448 560 is like.

  • Really Leaning towards 2 5870s. But my main concern is game compatibly, do you think it will be a big issue for current games and ones to come?.

  • @EthanTheExplorer I guess you could but I prefer Nvidia and the drivers are so much better.

  • @ComputerTechTV I'm going with 2 gtx 470s, they're REALLY hard to find used. I mean there's not the best selection. I was also Hopping that Asus made one with a aftermarket heatsink but they don't. So. It looks like I'm stuck with gigabyte and sparkle for more cooling. The sparkle one comes with the AC accelero extreme and I'm a big fan of that cooler but not a big fan of sparkle...

  • I would stick to Nvida for sure. The 470 would be a great deal for now or you could wait for the new 560. I am looking forward to the 448 core version and might sell my 550 Ti to put towards it. GTX480 is fast card but they have a history as you stated and they run so hot. Not sure how fast the 448 will be but heard its in the range of 570/580.
