This is one of Francesco Bonifazi's performances at the MusiCamdo Jazz & Blues Festival in Camerino, Italy - 2005. He's backed up by the Claudio Fillipini Trio from Rome.

  • Is there a lesson video or book on whistling out.

  • Kevin,

Not that I'm aware of. I've heard that one is in the works by Geert Chatrou - the best classical whistler out there.

You can find great instructional information if you join the Yahoo Group called Orawhistle. It's a group of international whistlers who encouragel whistlers of all levels.

  • THIS is the kind of thing I was hoping for when I decided to search YouTube for whistling videos. While I will be quite amazed if I should find anyone who surpasses Sean Lomax in technique, I cannot help but wonder what awesome performances might have been denied the public-at-large whilst Mr. Lomax was simply 'getting down' on his own time. That is, assuming he was of that inclination. Many great musical technicians are reticent to improvise. Are you a good jazz whistler? If so, upload!

  • Dear Ophelia,

I appreciate your comments on my improvizational whistling. While I also respect other whistlers for their technical skills, this is only part of what makes good music.

Check out Ron McCroby, Andrew Bird, and Brian Bromberg for other fine creative whistling.

I'm a musician 1st - a whistler, singer, guitarist and composer rolled into one. I also perform classical music, and it influences my improvizational styles.

    Thanks!

    Francesco

  • thats amazing! i have to ask, are you actually able to read music, and do you understand music theory or are you able to do all of that simply by ear since its not a matter of knowing where notes are on a fret board or piano ect.
