Do you have the same name as I do? My first name is Sherwin and it was given to me by my parents. I have proof on my birth certificate! Just like any other name someone in their lifetime may ask what does it mean? In this case what does Sherwin mean? Then you start to get curious and start asking other questions like where did it come from or is the name popular? I did some searching and already wanted to find out what my middle names and surname mean also. For now we will just keep on our main topic.

Some people have found that the name Sherwin developed into the early medieval period and was used as a surname. Sherwin or back in that time schere was first used as an Anglo-Saxon nickname meaning quick as the wind or to cut through. Europe and Russia described Sherwin as being eminent in friendship. The definition of eminent being either outstanding or distinguished. The English adapted Sherwin as one who is swift or a bright friend. The name was occasionally given to a fast runner or to an adept messenger. The name Sherwin spread to other continents like America, Africa and Asia.

There are other meanings that may not be easily understood. Sherwin could also be described as glowing friend or from the bright forest. Both which I think is ridiculous. It almost feels like a game of Chinese Checkers gone bad. I am from Philippines so Sherwin in Tagalog may mean wine. If I were to interpret this wine would be a social tool for friendship. Filipinos drink wine in celebration so it is all in good taste. Sherwin is as good as wine perhaps? The name Sherwin grew popular as a first name during the last century and the majority of them were male.

Would you name your son Sherwin if you had one? If you believe in pseudoscience then Sherwin can be responsible, caring and domestic. There is no real scientific basis as to how a person turns out by the name you give them. If they do it is purely by coincidence! Anyway, if you do believe in that kind of stuff then look up some numerological studies. Each person is unique so do no let generic descriptions run your life.
