Alright, so I'm going to be working with Chuck Brown, legendary Godfather of Go-go music. As you'll read on Wiki, Go-go is primarily known in and around the DC Metro area...that's where I first saw Chuck...on the Capitol Jazz Supercruise III this past October. His 2 hour non-stop show blew me away as the dance floor was poppin' all night long! During a Go-go show, the drummer never ever stops playing....they just segue from song to song with the drums continuing in between, thus keeping people on the dance floor! Its genius really. Anyway, since I'm going to be writing with Chuck, I thought I'd better get my Go-go chops up to speed so I decided to create a Go-go beat and here it is! Can you say, FUNKY??!!???!!!??? A little history of Go-go music: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go-go

  • As someone who grew playing in Go-Go bands I was surprised that you were able to catch the essence of the beat. Believe me not everyone can get that go-go feel.

Look forward to hearing the finish results.

  • Hey thanks! I just love that style!!!! I'm new to it, but I can't get enough. Thanks for writing in.... BC

  • Very cool groove, Love it. Will have to read up on Go-Go music a bit myself. What buffer settings are you using for you Virtual instruments? Are you able to work at 256 or do you need it lower at 128 or even 64?

    Thanks

    Scott

  • I'm at 128....seems to work the best for me. I think you just have to try a few and see what works for your setup.

  • Your missing the most important part.

  • OMG ...

  • Nice B!. I grew up listening to and playing GoGo. I have to tell you though I am not and have never been a fan of the new style of GoGo that is inclusive of the open hi-hat. It over powers the sound and the groove get's lost in it.

You are already set gettin with Chuck. However, expand your listening with some old school Rare Essence, Trouble Funk, and EU. Also try some Ayre Rayde; Michelle N'degeochello (sp.) played with them back in the day.

  • yo how come in maryland there are 2 different sounds?? like gogo and club.. like either a gogo fan or club fan..

  • Brian, you are a genius! Can't wait to hear the final cut.

  • This was fun to watch! Hey Brian on your next tour could you swing by the Bay Area? PRETTY PLEASE!!!!!!!?

  • My pastor is from D C and he talks about Go go all the time.

  • funkyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy is an understatement

  • WOW!!!

    Really funky! :)

  • Fabulicious!!!! It's gonna be real funkee this summer ;0
