Sellers plays car salesman Lionel Meadows, whose activities are just a front for a major car-theft operation. However, when cosmetics salesman John Cummings (Richard Todd) has his car stolen by one of Meadows' gang of car thieves, he initiates a one-man vendetta against a ruthless and brutal criminal who will go to extreme lengths to keep his criminal activities hidden from the eyes of the police and the public. When his brand new 1959 Ford Anglia is stolen right outside the door of his workplace at Berger's cosmetics, Cummings -- already under pressure from his boss to keep up with modern sales techniques and a younger, hungrier workforce -- finds the loss of the most important tool hard to bear. With the tenacity of a true salesman he tries both hard and soft sell techniques to uncover the operation that is removing cars from the street, giving them new plates and a paint job and ensuring that their whereabouts is never traced. But his interference has consequences, not just for the criminals involved -- for Tommy Towers (Adam Faith) and the gang of youths who hang out at the corner café, ready to steal cars to demand.
I met Adam Faith in a video store in Kent UK a few years before he died. I was amazed by how small he was. He was with a beautiful tall blonde woman who I was not introduced too. Smashing down to earth bloke.

@jazza123456789o Yes, I have it on DVD (recorded off cable) but I have no idea how to post to isohunt, or what isohunt is. The movie is 91 mins but I used a high bit rate to fill the entire 4.7 gb DVD so that I'd get maximum clarity. A 4.7gb file would take a long time to transfer! My guess is that a decent ripped file would be about 650mb.

Peter Sellers is terrific as the extremely nasty villain - very effective!

Does anyone have this film on DVD. If so, could they please post it on isohunt, so people can download it. It's such a great film, when we used to make great films.

Sorry - it's Todd who alights from the taxi. we see Lodge in the very next frame.

When David Lodge gets out of the taxi in this clip, the traffic you can see in the distance is on the Harrow Road; Ranelagh Bridge is just visible.
Another location was Fortess Rd in Kentish Town - that's where Todd alights from a '24' bus (the 24s never ran on that road!) and keeps an appointment at a beauty salon.

So, although they're trying to convey the idea of 'Meadow's Garage' and 'Berger's' being close to each other, the locations were several miles apart.
In the daytime scenes showing the pub, trolleybuses can be seen going south-west on Baring St - they're 641s heading ultimately for the City Road and Moorgate.

Adam is stealing the Anglia at the southern end of Southgate Rd where it intersects with Baring Street. Todd's place of work ('Berger's') was actually the Thomas Briggs Building and is still there, as is the 'Southgate Arms', the pub seen in the film.
'Meadow's Garage' was in Chichester Place, Paddington - much of that area was demolished to make way for the Westway Flyover in '64-'65.
