Istanbul Late Night, an exquisite suite of folk melodies adapted for a contemporary music ensemble by British clarinetist Dov Goldberg, inspired a dance exploration by choreographer Valerie Baadh in 2003. In this duet from the larger piece, two figures are created out of the imaginations of the two young girls, seen wrapped, as they prepare for their ceremonial initiation into womanhood. Performed by dancers and gymnasts Valerie Baadh and Maureen Curran, the dream characters become the spirit guides who lead the girls towards their future.
