Over the weekend of 26-28/05/2007 the East Lancashire Railway held a 1940's Wartime Weekend. I visited on Sunday 27th May 2007 and filmed 3440 City of Truro, 6201 Princess Elizabeth and 5690 Leander at various locations.

  • No City of Truro's the best one ever!!

  • I have always been amazed at loco drivers and firemen in those years, during WWII who had to drive their locomotives in totally blacked out cabs (covered in tarpaulin) at night in murderous heat, to ovoid attack from the air. all signals and station lighting had to be subdued. and they had no idea if the track ahead had been bombed or blocked. The drivers went by their feelings and instinct, yes I've got great respect for them. Keeep the videos coming..John

  • Thanks Mark. Chris

  • Is it just me, or do the LMS locos sound better?
