http://michaelkwan.com - A huge colony of giant fruit bats in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. They were flying all along the esplanade, beach, and CBD (downtown) regions, particularly at night. I believe they are flying foxes and are mostly harmless.
They are "spectacled flying foxes". They spend their days on the trees at Abott street, near the library. Every evening at around 19:10 they take off and head for the rainforest where they feed on fruits. There are hundreds a Abott streat, and even more in a colony near Andersen & Peat street.
