it's not depicting single dads as being all horrible - it's depicting ONE SINGLE DAD on being ONE CASE of being bad. he's not using this as a preaching point, he's using it as a plot point. i think you just viewed it as an attack against you, which it wasn't at all.
also, we're reaching a point where animated does not mean kids necessarily. do some research first.

I took the kids I babysat to this movie, and they loved it! You're right, there are adult themes in this movie, but they aren't in any way crude for a child to watch. You're also right that it's not a kids movie, it's an everybody movie! Also, Pixar isn't picking on dads at all, Russell's dad just happens to be missing is all. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it, but this is just a thought (which you've more than likely heard before.)

I definitely agree.

i apologize for the way that this movie was perceived by you, because like many of the others who have commented on this video, i was deeply touched by it and i give kudos to whoever wrote this movie for telling an honest story. not in anyway am i saying that all single parents are the way that they are depicted in this film, but i do know that the ones that are do exist. i hope in october Where the Wild Things are works out better for you because its probably the greatest children's movie to be

I understand your concern but unfortunately, absent Dads is a reality that happen to be shown in this movie and it fits with the storyline of Russell. I consider this movie to be wonderful and I enjoyed it.

Right, PIXAR has never really made a kids movie, of course with the exception to Cars, but films like Wall-E and their other masterpieces, they are stand alone films, they are not Disney, they are PIXAR and thank God for them because without them we would have nothing but remakes and horrible Disney and dreamworks films PIXAR is boss

Thanks RJ for sharing that with us it is nice to know what you are going into. There has been a few times I took my daughter to a cute "kids" movie with an appropriate rating and would have liked a little forwarning about a part or two I found questionable for young kids. I'll let you know what I thought after I see it.
You do realize Pixar doesn't do "kid's films", right? They do movies for people. And maybe your audience was just a bad example...the kids in my theater ate it up.
Anyhow, Russell's father NEEDED to be absentee, because he viewed Carl as a father figure. The dad wasn't called a bad man or downed upon, he was just busy with his life. As a child whose father is far away and doesn't always communicate with me, I think this was far more realistic than Russell having a super dad.

I agree, people pick the damnedest things to complain about. I can just picture someone from the boy scouts going "HOW DARE THEY PICK ON US BOY SCOUTS! PIXAR DEPICTS US AS DUMB AND USELESS! SHAME ON YOU PIXAR!"
I say, shame on you sir! This is a movie that shows kids the ups and down (no pun intended) of life, and instead of sharing knowledge with your daughter you blast it because it's not sugar sweet fantasy and then whine just because a character's dad doesn't pay attention to him? Insecure?
