I don't see how a Bentley could ever be perceived as a poor man's Rolls Royce, as when they were both made by Rolls at Crewe and shared the same body, there was little difference in price. The last models, the Silver Seraph and the Arnage, I believe were approx £160k and £150k. In Great Britain it was always the Jaguar that was called the Poor Man's Rolls Royce.
